History of Serre de Parc


A fortress was first established during the Middle Ages

The oldest mention of Chastel Sarras (the historical name of Serre de Parc) dates back to 1374

1476 De Monts noble family acquires the fortress

1520 The fortress dungeon is destroyed

1573 Josserand de Monts (the owner) is killed at Serre de Parc during the French Wars of Religion

1619  Letter from the King of France establishing Serre de Parc as a fiefdom (see below)

1709 Serre de Parc is acquired by the Marquis de Geoffre de Chabrignac (Advisor to the King)

1750 - 1775  The remains of the fortress are transformed into a chateau and the French gardens created (As seen in the illustration below)

In 1918, Serre de Parc is acquired by the grandfather of the current owner

August 1944, Serre de Parc is liberated by the American forces after 2 years of occupation by German Luftwaffe 

Since 1990, extensive restoration work has been conducted
